We are pleased to announce that Emma Johnson has been chosen as our FUAN May 2021 Advocate of the Month. Emma grew up in our neighboring state of Illinois and attended the University of Illinois at Champaign Urbana. She is the proud mother of two “tweens.”

Emma Johnson is a FUAN Family Participant, and she is the founder of Moms for Shared Parenting and wealthysinglemommy.com. She is an award-winning business journalist and bestselling author who has been a voice for single mothers and Shared Parenting on CNBC, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, NPR, TIME, The Doctors, Elle, and O, The Oprah Magazine. Winner of Parents magazine’s “Best of the Web,” Emma has advocated for equal parenting before the United Nations Summit for Gender Equality, Google, and multiple state legislatures.

Emma is originally from Sycamore, Ill., and spent the first decade of her career as a journalist in daily newspapers, the Associated Press, and as a freelance writer. Her business, wealthysinglemommy.com, is the largest known community of single moms worldwide, and the site has been visited more than 12 million times. Emma has been quoted as a voice of single mothers in hundreds of media outlets around the world.

“Gender equality cannot be achieved without equal parenting time between mothers and fathers.”

~ Emma Johnson ~

Emma was inspired to start Moms for Shared Parenting after years of observing the stark contrast between moms who shared parenting with their kids' fathers and those with primary or sole custody. Her own journey as a primary-time parent to one with a 50/50 arrangement also contributed. A lifelong feminist, she felt called to fill a void in the Shared Parenting movement for progressives like herself — as well as position the issue as one of racial and gender equality.

In January 2020, Emma published the findings of her survey of nearly 2,300 single moms, which found a direct correlation between equality in the women's time-sharing arrangements and their income. The report was endorsed by notable feminists including Anne-Marie Slaughter, and was featured in Elle magazine, CNBC, Fox Business News Radio, Parents magazine and others.

Emma was chosen not only for her hard work but also her dedication and commitment that have helped expand the Shared Parenting audience and prove the benefits from a brand new perspective. Her leadership with her organization, Moms for Shared Parenting, continues to unite all parents towards putting their children first. She recognizes the child(ren’s) needs for both parents, and still finding ways to help to empower women to be stronger in their life and career by simplifying the benefits of Shared Parenting.

Congratulations Emma Johnson on being chosen the FUAN Advocate of the Month of May 2021, and Happy Mothers Day to all!
