The February 2017 Families United Action Network Advocate of the Month – Deb Olson
FUAN recognizes and is thankful for Deb Olson. Her talented behind the scenes work on graphic design and editing projects helps FUAN to establish our recognizable brand and messaging.
Deb works at Affordable Cleaning Services in Iowa City, IA as a bookkeeper, secretary, graphic designer, friend, and colleague. When not working at her “day job”, she can be found organizing bridal, craft and vendor shows, and special functions.
Deb is now re-married. She has three children and three grandchildren. She was divorced when her two oldest children were 3 and 8.
The 15 years following her divorce was filled with the stress of a single parent trying to do her best to raise her kids as the children grew and moved on with their adult lives.
Part of the weight for Deb was interacting with a father who was the “fun” parent. He was the guy who didn’t show up for a visit, or who failed to call. All of this and more was part of her everyday experience. She was the one left to piece together the broken hearts.
Thankfully, her children have grown up to be beautiful adults, and that painful chapter is behind her. Now Deb helps the Family Law Reform cause from behind the scenes by working on graphic design and editing projects.
